Ashcombe Road signage | |
|
We have installed our first signage to commemorate the WC&PR, at the Ashcombe Road station site. On Friday 9 Dec 2011 an Interpretation Board was unveiled by John Penrose, MP, watched by a crowd of about 25 consisting mostly of members, plus a Colonel Stephens ‘look-alike’, and a few dressed in period costume. The Group has always had an objective of promoting an awareness of the heritage of the railway to the general public. Until now there has been no signage of any description over the fourteen mile length of the railway to acknowledge that the railway ever existed. In addition to the Interpretation Board, permission was obtained from North Somerset Council to erect signage to mark the route of the railway in that vicinity by naming the footpath/lane which runs along the old track bed as ‘Colonel Stephens Way’ and two Colonel Stephens Way signs were installed at the same time. The WC&P Railway Group is grateful for a donation from the Colonel Stephens Society towards this signage. Remaining funding was by The Group and members. The Group intends to install signage at other main points along the route as funds permit. Click photos to enlarge. | |
