Cycleways and footpaths along the WC&P
Although it would be wonderful to see trains running again along the WC&P Railway
route, this is unlikely, and the best way to safeguard the route from building over
or complete obliteration may be to encourage cycleways and footpaths on the track
bed. This should then preserve the route for the foreseeable future.
If this is done however, we must find ways to show that this was once a railway,
by use of notice boards, plaques, markers etc.
Part of the route between Clevedon and Weston - from Ham Lane halt to
Wick St Lawrence
halt is already planned as a cycleway by North Somerset Council. which will be part
of the National Cycle Network Route 33. This would pass the remains of the Yeo Bridge
and cross over the nearby Tutshill Sluice. We would like to see signs, maps etc to
give full recognition to the railway on this route.
The council was also planning a public footpath, the Tidal Trail, which would run
along the coast, then follow the banks of the River Yeo, also passing the remains
of the Yeo Bridge and Wharf and share the crossing of the Tutshill Sluice with the
cycleway. This has now been superseded by the Marine and Coastal Access Act.

You can already walk a part of the track bed in the Gordano Valley on Weston Moor
Reserve, which is part of the Avon Wildlife Trust land near Weston in Gordano. See
The Line today - North section.
