Sharp Stewart 2-4-0T

History:

This tank loco was originally owned by the LBSCR, where it was numbered 53, It was later named Bishopstone. It worked the Hayling Island branch as No 270 Fratton. It was sold to Cohen of Nottingham for scrap and bought from them by the WC&PR. It was possibly named Portishead though this is uncertain. It was the engine involved in the WC&PR’s worst accident - see Stories. It was similar to Hesperus. Driving wheel diameter was 4ft.
