Monthly Press Release/Newsletter

June 2010 – Issue 7

This month’s newsletter is much briefer than usual as members of the Committee are concentrating on preparing the town for the South West in Bloom judges who will be arriving at 9.00a.m. on Friday 9 July.

OPEN GARDENS -12/13 June

This was a resounding success, raising the most money ever in the history of Portishead in Bloom’s Open Gardens Weekend. Eighteen gardens were opened to the public. The weather was exceptional which encouraged over 500 people to visit from far and wide, together with the lure of homemade refreshments, plant sales, jazz and art in some gardens. A huge thank you must go to all the gardeners who spent so many hours in preparation for this event, the sponsors who donated raffle prizes, Burleigh Press who printed the programmes free of charge and Morgan Westley and Season’s Florists for selling the programmes.  The committee worked so hard to make this such an enjoyable experience for all who attended. Finally, a huge vote of thanks must go to our Chairman, Sandy Tebbutt who spearheaded the Open Gardens weekend and worked tirelessly to make it so successful.

The money raised will go towards watering costs for the floral displays as well as maintenance costs of the tubs and carousels.
